Do I have air ambulance transport benefits within my insurance policy?

The majority of insurance policies that we evaluate do have coverage for air ambulance benefits. The answer however is not always clear as each patient has different circumstances that may or may not fit the criteria established by the insurance company. Mercy Jets does not expect you to be able to dissect the contractual language written by your insurance company in a time of need and offers our team of advocates FREE. Let us restate that clearly… yes, FREE. Other air ambulance companies may include this service for a fee or hide it in the total cost of the flight. Our promise to you includes the detailed evaluation of your benefits by our legal and medical departments, increasing the potential that your insurance company may cover some or all of the air ambulance transportation.

Will my insurance cover the cost of the flight?

We have never met an insurance company that guarantees payment. If another air ambulance company advises otherwise, we strongly suggest looking elsewhere. Here, at Mercy Jets, we assign a specific team of experts who will advocate for your insurance rights drastically increasing your chance of coverage. Your team will consist of at least one of each of the following:

• Nurse Case Manager – experienced, licensed, and certified Nurse Case Managers who have previous experience working in insurance companies providing benefits for patients.
• Claims expert – representatives with years of experience in coding, submitting, and following insurance claims and overturning adverse determinations made by insurance companies.
• Attorney – board certified attorneys who will fight for your coverage rights and handle legal issues on your behalf alleviating the need to hire a personal lawyer.
• Doctor – board certified doctors who support you as our patient and help with peer to peer reviews concerning professional medical opinions regarding your coverage.

We just wanted to remind you that we are your advocates and these services are at no additional cost to you or your family.

I was told I have coverage but need a Letter of Medical Necessity?

A Letter of Medical Necessity is a document in which your Doctor clearly states the need for your air ambulance transportation. Insurance companies sometimes require this document dependent on the contractual language within your insurance policy. Since we work closely with your Nurse Case Managers and Doctors, we will coordinate and make every effort to obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity from your physician.

How do I file the claims?

You don’t have to…

• Our medical staff will coordinate with other medical professionals involved in your care to file all the necessary paperwork on your behalf.
• Our claims experts will submit and follow your claim and fight to overturn any adverse determination.
• Our legal team will submit appeals on your behalf and hold the insurance companies accountable to the law.
• Our Physicians will conduct reviews with the insurance companies medical professionals.
